Body Clear Body Wash pink grapefruit by Neutrogena
Bacne. Let's face it, a lot of us have it and those who don't could easily get it. I'm on my ever lasting quest to find a body wash that will not only clear up this nasty bacne but keep from drying out my sensitive skin! Curse my skin for being so sensitive to moisture and acne treatment! I'm sure if I didn't have outragous dry skin there would be so much more for me to try! Anyways, back to our original topic.
Bacne; What is it and what causes it?
So, in my attempt to understand what will heal this problem, I first wanted to understand what created it in the first place. So, body acne is caused by a few different things. There's my personal disliked one; not showering enough. Your body sweats and the pores collect the dirt from clothing and sweaty through out the day. So, if you don't shower at least every other day, chances are you will get body acne. Then there is; not showering after a work out/sports. This pretty much goes along with the first one. Shower after you doing something particularly dirty or makes you sweat. (Plus, it'll help your social points go up if you don't REECH!) Tight clothing is always a risk. With tight fabric rubbing up against your skin all day, especially if it's sensitive like mine, can cause irritate and break outs. And despite what a lot of people may have told you, even your mother, food is not a major factor in acne break outs. I'm not saying you should eat all the cheese in the world or a big fat greasy cheeseburger (mm, that sounds good right now). Greasy food is bad for your skin, more for the fact that most of us do not wash our hands after eating nor our faces. The grease and oils from food is left to wander around and dig into our pores! Ew.
So, let's get down to this review. Wanting to clear up my body acne for a photo shoot I had in a month, I went to the store in search of a body wash that targeted bacne. I had used the Neutrogena body wash before, a 8.5 oz bottle of orange gooey soap that did not smell very good, but it also did not smell bad. It seemed to work O.K. So, upon reaching the body wash aisle, I noticed Neutrogena had come out with a lot more than just than orange goo! They now had it in pink, orange, and pinkish one with red little floaty beads. Pink grapefruit. Mmm. I instantly had to open it up and smell it. Delicious! Oooh, the bottle says 'New' in the corner! How awesome. 'Microclear technology'? Em... Since when did body wash become technology? 'Clears body breakouts', '100% naturally derived grapefruit extract', and 'salicylic acid acne treatment' all graced the front of this bottle. What the heck, I'll try this stuff for 7.99 at my local CVS. Besides, salicylic acid is one of the best treatments for acne. I use to use Murad which main ingredinent is salicylic acid! And I love Murad!
Okay. This stuff smells good in the bottle and the first few times you use it. But after a while, my boyfriend started to wrinkle up his nose and claim is smelt like body odor. Uh, no thanks. I do not want to step out of a shower smelling like I need to step back into one. Oh wait, no worries guys! This body wash does NOT leave a scent after you wash it off. Oh, now I have to layer on the perfume, gag. I used this stuff religiously. I even rolled in mud in my bikini just so I would have to shower! Oh, just kidding. I used it regularly, whenever I showered which is either every day or every other day. I usually shower at night or after the gym. So, it's not like I was showering first thing in the morning and then just sweating off all of this body wash goodness. I tried a few different ways to use this stuff. First, I used my own hands. Just dripping a nickel sized amount in my hands and attempting to reach those middle spots on your back, and the rest of my body. Nope, that wasn't working. I could barely reach the infected areas. Plan b was in the form of a loofah on a long wooden handle thing. Dab some soapy soap on that, lather it up and scrub-a-bub-dub. Now I can reach all those spots and my sensitive skin on my hands wont be over washed! I used this technique for the rest of the bottle (well, until the loofah unfolded all over the place and tried to attack me). The photo shoot came and went. My photographer said my back looked 'fine' and that there were only a 'few spots she had to cover up'. Unacceptable! Not only was this body wash not making me smell good, but it wasn't really fighting my acne as it was suppose to. It said C-L-E-A-R, not 'at bay'. Dove keeps my skin at bay! I did everything it said on the bottle and what did it do? Just cost me 8 dollars and make my boyfriend crinkle up his nose whenever I lathered it on.
Boo, Neutrogena, boo.
Overall; I wouldn't buy this unless you have really mild to no body acne, for this product will leave you unsatisfied! And not leave you smelling like delicious fresh grapefruit. The only good thing about Body Clear Body Wash by Neutrogena is that it did not leave my skin extremely dried out.
The end!
